For those of you that have not heard Elizabeth had brain surgery on 10/15/2008 in hopes of stopping her seizures. Since the surgery she has had only 1 post op seizure on 10/19/2008 and has been doing well since then. We have learned a lot about epilepsy and the effects it can cause since her diagnosis at 11 months. We pray our journey continues to improve for Elizabeth and one day soon she can be seizure and medication free! We appreciate everyones’ support over the past years and hope to see you at the Stroll!

Letter from House Corporation President Dirk Greene

September 29 2008–

Dear Alpha Gamma Alumni:

Lots of great things have been happening at the house both organizationally and physically. The active chapter continues to build membership in raw numbers and in men of good character. With alumni brother, Tim Michael ’70 acting as recruitment advisor we are confident 2008-2009 will be a banner year for activating new ambitious Sigma Chi’s.

As many of you know, our beloved house at 260 East 15th Avenue is now 53 years old and is in need of serious attention. House Corporation is completing a major renovation project including replacement of the patio deck that was leaking into the chapter room; repairing the parking lot; new security lighting; new 800 amp electric service; many other miscellaneous odds and ends; and most importantly the complete renovation of the “old” chapter room into a new state of the art study room. Big thanks to Brother Jim Smiley ‘76 for his management of this project.

I and the entire Board of Trustees of the House Corporation would like to encourage all who are available to consider attending the Home coming dinner this October 24th (it’s co-ed this year…. Please bring your significant others). And even if you are not lucky enough to make it to the dinner, we would encourage a visit to the house to see for yourself, what is happening at 260!

In Hoc Signo Vinces,

Dirk Greene ‘95
President

COLLEGE – Robinson graduated cum laude from The Ohio State University in 1984 with a bachelors degree in Honors Accounting after working as an Accounting Intern for both Lancaster Colony and Deloitte Haskins & Sells, and as a Marketing Intern for the City of Columbus. During college he earned income for living expenses by running a small handyman business, applying skills learned in the hardware store. Robinson joined the Sigma Chi Fraternity as a freshman and was elected chapter president for his senior year.

“I learned many lessons during these years, both in books and from life itself. The former I recall with effort, but the latter I can never forget.”

2008 Fall Undergrad Rush Info

http://osusigmachi.com/rush.htm

How the Process Works

The Ohio State University designates a recruitment, or “rush,” period designed to help potential new members learn more about the Greek organizations on our campus. At Ohio State, formal rush occurs during the first two weeks of Winter Quarter and informal rush occurs in the Spring and Fall Quarters, however interested individuals are free to visit Greek houses as they wish. Sigma Chi at Ohio State encourages individuals interested in rushing our fraternity to visit the house and meet the Active Chapter. Should you decide to rush Sigma Chi, the chapter will provide you with the necessary information and registration forms. Check the Recruitment Calendar for a list of upcoming events. In addition, feel free to contact the Recruitment Chairmen at any time to set up a tour of the Chapter House or meet some of the Active Brothers.

During Recruitment, talk with the members of every Greek organization OSU has to offer in order to find out which is right for you. If both you and the Sigma Chi Brothers feel that Sigma Chi is the fraternity for you, you will be extended a “bid,” or invitation to join.

If you accept your bid, you will enroll in a pledge, or educational program. The pledge program is designed to teach you more about Sigma Chi, as well as allow the Active Chapter to learn more about you. The process of pledgeship consists of intellectual exercises, shared experiences, and cultivation of friendship of a higher ordeal – all aimed at enlisting worthy men into a meaningful commitment of lifelong duration. The program is designed to be mentally, emotionally, and spiritually stimulating, and therefore HAZING AND DEGRADING ACTIVITIES ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

The pledge period culminates with initiation, your first introduction into the teachings of our Ritual and the beginning of your journey as a Sigma Chi Brother. After initiation, you will receive post-initiation training (P.I.T.), a program designed to help you learn more about our ideals and ritual, and prepare you to make the most out of your undergraduate Sigma Chi experience.

Why Join a Fraternity?

Joining a fraternity can by one of the most rewarding decisions you will make in your college career. In addition to enriching your academic, social and extracurricular life at Ohio State, Sigma Chi is an excellent place to meet individuals of different talents and convictions, who share similar values and ideals as you. Being a member of a fraternity can help build your character in every aspect, an invaluable experience that will help you throughout life, whether applying for a job, graduate school, or moving to a new city, state or country.

Tom Backus to play in Delaware

I’m gonna be in town next week for a high school class reunion and I’m also doing a gig next Thursday up in Delaware at “The Backstretch” with some old bandmates at 7 pm on Aug 21. Pass the word if any Sigs want to stop out for a cold one I’ll be there! It’s a cool little bar and it should be big fun. Hope to see you there- In Hoc, Tom
